Characteristics
Obtention: JL. SCHOLTZ - European P.B.R.
The
flowers of this plant are grouped in their characteristic "bottle-brushes"
at the end of the branches ; the long stamens give the shrub its ornamental quality.
Of
a scarlet pink, a complimentary colour to the traditional varieties, the flowers
bloom from the end of May and in June for a month and more lightly in the autumn
if the stems are cut off under the wilted flowers.
The red coloured young shoots
give place to a fine narrow grey-green foliage, which can persist all winter.
HOT PINK
is hardier than the other classic varieties.
The shape of this Callistemon
selection originating from South Africa is rounded and well ramified.
Height:
1.50 m to 2.00 m Width: 1.50 m to 2.00 m in propitious climatic area.
Uses
The
Callistemon does well in dry soils, preferably without lime and does not need
much maintenance. However, it is more beautiful, more ramified and in flower when
watered regularly in the summer.
This shrub blooms to the full in a sunny position.
After flowering cut the stems systematically just under their flower to avoid
fruit formation and to favour the growth of new shoots.
