This new variety of Clematis is slow growing: its form is at first upright, becoming
supple with pliable stems. At full size SAPHYRA ® Indigo
reaches a height of 1.00 to 1.20 m, and has a spread of approximately 0.60 m.
It has to be cut down short in early spring.
The foliage is light green,
deciduous and of medium size.
The flowers, about 10 cm large, have 5 - 6 tepals,
and are most often indigo (dark purple-blue) at blossom time, then getting paler.
Stamens are very dark violet first, getting white at their base later. Flowering
is very abundant, starting in june and reaching far into autumn. To accentuate
this, simply remove the wilted flowers and pinch out from time to time.
Use:
Hardy,
preferring a sunny partially shaded position, SAPHYRA ® Indigo
needs a little support for growing, against a low wall or in a container; it can
also be left to freely cover the ground in a group of shrubs.
