A collective adventure involving people and plants began in 1974 and has continued ever since. Generations of nurserymen have passed the baton, and new, well-natured plants are added to the Sapho catalogue every year.
The ladybird goes on!
To celebrate our 50th anniversary, we have taken the time to write down the beliefs and goals that motivate us at Sapho, and we are sharing them with you here.

Gardens and landscapes are an essential part of our lives, our towns and our countryside.

Now more than ever, plants are being recognised as a solution to many of the environmental and social challenges of our time. The demand for green spaces is huge and highly varied depending on location, space, conditions, intended use and required services.

With so many different needs to consider, the future depends on the diversity of plant forms.

We believe in mobilising and diversifying all the players involved so that a wide range of resources is available to serve the Living.

Everyone has a part to play!

For Sapho, we are continuing the mission that our predecessors began 50 years ago: to develop varietal innovation, with passion, patience and perseverance.

Varietal innovation is a key driver of biodiversity.

Innovation enriches the plant palette, offering new solutions that broaden the range of possibilities and our ability to adapt. Thanks to our extensive research into selecting varieties that are resistant to emerging diseases, we also want to play an active part in preserving the diversity of existing landscapes.

Innovation is sustainable when it is considered as a whole.

That's why we talk about "les plantes de bonne nature". In other words, they are a bouquet of qualities: they are easy to grow, pleasing to the eye, and suited to a changing environment. Plants that are harmonious, colourful, generous, useful, healthy and robust. Original plants for pleasure and for the future.

We believe in collective intelligence and collaboration.

In order to select the best creations that meet the many criteria, we share our passion for plants and combine our expertise and views. As French nurserymen, we are able to look beyond our own interests in order to collaborate on innovations that will benefit the entire industry.

In the age of climate change, it is more important than ever to be curious and open-minded.

The open network that we are developing with breeders, agents, partners, and other stakeholders in the plant sector across Europe and other continents is proving to be an increasingly useful and productive resource.

Our ambition,

that of Sapho, has been for over 50 years and we hope will remain so for a long time: to contribute to enriching and preserving plant palettes, thanks to varietal innovation, by offering good quality plants, whose qualities will make them naturally and sustainably adopted by all professionals and amateurs of plants and gardens.
