Enhancing the lives of patients at the Clinique de l'Anjou: a wonderful project that has now been planted! Once the planting period is over, users will be able to enjoy this colourful patch of greenery without delay.
Founded by Dr Nicolas Paillocher, the Cité des soins association aims to improve the quality of life of patients undergoing cancer treatment at the Clinique de l'Anjou. They offer a range of activities, including theatre, writing, relaxation therapy, adapted physical activity and plant-based mediation.
The desire to develop the green space at the Clinique de l’Anjou to enhance plant mediation emerged in 2019. The idea was not only to benefit the patients taking part in the workshops, but also to create a friendly space for care staff taking a break, families visiting their loved ones and hospitalised patients wanting a breath of fresh air.
So the association called on Atelier des vertus and Clara David began to rethink the 200 m2 space. A vegetable garden was created in 2021 and became part of the association's plant-based mediation programme the following year.
This new space, bursting with colour, will be a source of many activities for patients attending Cité des soins workshops. They will be able to maintain the garden, learn how to prune shrubs and make bouquets as the seasons change. This ‘garden therapy’, as Dr Gérard Lorimier calls it, makes a major contribution to the well-being of patients, who can feel useful by having a manual activity and getting their creative juices flowing.
Débuts du projet à la Clinique de l'Anjou.
The patients themselves, with Clara's expert help, were able to choose the varieties they would like to see. Blending everyone's tastes and colours, Clara has designed a garden where flowers and foliage can be picked to make bouquets to brighten up the clinic's reception areas. She has taken care to ensure that at every time of year, this garden will always be in bloom. She has also increased the height of the garden by placing the smaller species at the ends of the L-shaped garden and the larger shrubs in the corners. The result is not intended to be harmonious, but to offer plants to suit all tastes.
